 About Pipitea

Centre History

Pipitea Childcare was established in November 1988.  It is a non-profit incorporated society and all surplus funds are re-invested in the Centre.

Purpose and Aim

We provide a warm, caring environment in which children have the opportunity to develop emotionally, socially, intellectually and spiritually.  Our overall objective is to aid children to reach their full potential by fostering self-esteem and independence through a non-violent free play programme, which reflects the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and multi-culturalism as incorporated in Te Whariki Early Childhood Curriculum.

We provide a full day programme of education and care -  see our daily routines for under-two-year olds and over-two-year olds.

The Centre is a parent/staff cooperative for the primary use of children of public servants and from the wider community.

Our charter and policies can be viewed on the Policies page on this site.
You may view a copy of our latest Education Review Office report on the ERO site.

What the Centre Provides

Child's Art

The staff run developmentally appropriate educational programmes for all ages, based on bi-annual child assessments and the early childhood curriculum Te Whariki.

Developmental programme plans for both over twos and under twos are displayed each term (4 per year).

A bi-annual profile is produced on each child. Parents are encouraged to read these and discuss their child's progress with the profile teacher.

Management of the Centre

The Centre is run by a Management Committee made up of parents and staff.  Parent members are elected to the Management Committee each year at the Annual General Meeting in June.

Parent Involvement

Parents are welcome to join the Management Committee. All parents are expected to attend at least one working bee annually.  The Centre employs a gardener who attends to the weekly maintenance of the grounds.
We hold several social evenings each year, usually in the form of a fish and chips evening for parents and children.
